Description

โšพ Graded 1988 Topps Tom Glavine #779 Rookie RC Baseball Card PSA 9 Mint โ€“ The Near-Perfect Grade on the Flagship Topps Rookie Card of Tom Glavine, the Left-Hander Who Won 305 Career Games, Earned Two NL Cy Young Awards, Won the 1995 World Series MVP, and Was Inducted Into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014 as One of the Most Accomplished Starting Pitchers of His Generation and One of the Key Figures of the Atlanta Braves Dynasty That Won 14 Consecutive Division Titles Between 1991 and 2005

โšพ The 1988 Topps set is one of the most collected flagship Topps products from the late 1980s โ€“ the era of card collecting that defined the hobby for a generation of fans who opened packs at drugstores and card shops, who traded duplicates on school playgrounds, who carefully sleeved the cards of the players they believed in and stored them in binders with the hope that the players they were watching in the National League and the American League would develop into the career contributions that the early performance suggested was possible. Tom Glavine's #779 rookie card in the 1988 Topps set is the flagship documentation of a career that would validate every optimistic projection a young collector might have placed on a tall left-handed pitcher from the Atlanta Braves at the very beginning of what became one of the most successful careers in the history of the pitching position in the National League.

โšพ Thomas Michael Glavine was born March 25, 1966, in Concord, Massachusetts, and grew up in Billerica, Massachusetts โ€“ a New England kid with a two-sport background: he was also drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft as a hockey prospect, which speaks to the level of athletic versatility he carried before committing fully to baseball and the pitching career that the Atlanta Braves organization developed into one of the most consistent and celebrated in the history of the National League. He made his major league debut with the Braves in 1987 and quickly established himself as one of the central figures of a pitching staff that the organization was building around Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, and Glavine himself โ€“ the rotation that would become the defining feature of the Braves dynasty across fourteen consecutive division titles from 1991 through 2005.

๐Ÿ† Glavine won 305 career games โ€“ a total that places him among the select group of left-handed pitchers in Major League Baseball history to reach 300 wins, a threshold that in the modern era of bullpen specialization and pitch count management has become increasingly rare and increasingly significant as a career achievement. He won the NL Cy Young Award in 1991, when he posted a 20-11 record and helped lead the Braves to their first of fourteen consecutive division titles, and again in 1998 when he posted a 20-6 record for a Braves team that again competed at the top of the NL East. He won the 1995 World Series MVP Award after the Braves defeated the Cleveland Indians in six games, pitching one of the most celebrated performances in World Series history in the clinching game at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.

๐Ÿƒ The 1988 Topps Tom Glavine Rookie RC #779 is the standard-format documentation of the beginning of a Hall of Fame career โ€“ the card from the flagship set that collectors now recognize as the foundational piece for one of baseball's most accomplished left-handed pitchers. A PSA 9 MINT grade confirms four corners that are near-perfect, centering within PSA's standards, and a surface with minimal wear โ€“ one grade below GEM MINT, representing exceptional preservation of a card from 1988 that has survived more than three decades in the condition that the PSA registry documents and authenticates.
