Description

🏔️ Zerkhaki: Northern Afghanistan's Geometric Tradition

Zerkhaki is an Afghan weaving tradition from the northern provinces of Afghanistan — particularly the Kunduz and Takhar regions of the upper Amu Darya basin — where hand-knotting has been practiced for generations across a rich network of village production centers. The Zerkhaki design tradition draws on a geometric vocabulary of repeating medallions and angular motifs set against strong field colors, representing the Afghan village weaving tradition at its most distinctive: an autonomous Afghan aesthetic with its own vocabulary and character, developed independently of the Persian and Caucasian design traditions that dominate so much of the wider rug market. 🌿

🔷 Blue Tones: The Natural Wool Palette

The blue tones of this Zerkhaki rug — the cool, sophisticated blues characteristic of northern Afghan production — give the piece a calm, considered visual presence. Woven from 100% natural wool, the rug carries the characteristic texture and resilience of genuine Afghan hand-knotted production. The intricate geometric patterning — medallion forms, angular botanical motifs, and an elaborated border system — demonstrates the design sophistication of the northern Afghan village weaving tradition. 🎨

📐 Construction and Condition

Returns & Exchange

Take your time — you've got a full six months. If a piece isn't right for you, send it back the way it reached you and we're good.

In the first 30 days your money goes straight back the way you paid. After that it's store credit, so you can put it toward something you'd rather have.

Return shipping we sort out between us, case by case. I don't make this difficult.

If something arrives damaged, or it isn't what I said it was, send me a photo within 48 hours and I'll make it right.

Email [email protected] or call 802-356-9872 — that's me answering, not a call center.

The only things I can't take back are custom or special-order pieces and gift cards.
