🦉 Which Colourway This Is — and What the Sheet Prints

This listing is the RED sheet — the burnt-orange/red ground with a dark keyline border. Say it plainly, because the same design was also printed on a dark navy ground with a pale blue keyline, and one of the photographs shows the two side by side so you can compare them. Same drawing, same wording, same layout; the difference is entirely the colour scheme.

One genuine printing difference between the two: a short code sits in white microtype at the lower right of the navy sheet only. The red sheet's lower-right corner was cropped at 8x and carries no code at all. That code is at the resolution limit in every frame and is left unread — and a short code in that position is a printer's plate or form number, not a year, and must never be converted into a date.

What is printed: SNOW OWL in tall display capitals with an oversized swash S and O, with BRAND set small beneath; APPLES; PERHAM / Fruit Corporation; YAKIMA, WASHINGTON.   U.S.A. — the terminal period after WASHINGTON is on the object; DISTRIBUTOR, printed beneath the address, which is the sheet's own word for Perham's role rather than grower or packer; CONTENTS ONE U.S. BUSHEL; and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA spelled out in full beneath the product word. The border is a thin double keyline with a small square ornament at each corner.
