Description

Get ready to be blown away by this incredible piece of Americana! We're talking about an authentic Vintage 1950s Doe Carrots Crate Label, folks! The sheet reads GROWN AND SHIPPED BY JOE MAGGIO, INC., MAIN OFFICE HOLTVILLE, CALIF. — they grew and shipped the carrots, and the label names no maker at all., straight outta Holtville, California. Talk about a stunner - this label is an absolute knockout, and the clever baseball nod to the other Joe? Pure genius!

Measuring a compact 7" x 6 1/4", this beauty is in pristine condition with barely a scratch on it. It's like stepping back in time to the fabulous fifties!

Now, let me tell you about Joe Maggio, the mastermind behind this treasure. Known as the "Carrot King of Holtville" (how cool is that?), Joe started his farming journey in the Imperial Valley back in the late 1940s. This guy knew his carrots inside and out, and his hands-on approach to growing and selling these orange beauties earned him that royal nickname. Talk about setting the bar high for the family business!

Listen up, history buffs and art enthusiasts! These 1950s Doe Carrots crate labels aren't just pretty pictures - they're time capsules from a bygone era. Once as common as smartphones are today, these labels have become rare finds that'll make your collector's heart skip a beat. The scarcity factor? Off the charts! And don't even get me started on the craftsmanship. The lithography process used to create these beauties is nothing short of magical. We're talking stone or metal plates, intricate designs, and a level of detail that'll make your eyes pop. It's an art form that modern printing just can't touch.

Here's the kicker - these vintage 1950s Doe carrots crate labels are so hot right now, museums and art institutions are dedicating entire galleries to them. Can you believe it? The demand is through the roof, making this label a must-have for any serious collector. But why let it gather dust in a museum when it could be the star of your home decor?

Imagine this piece of history gracing your walls, bringing a touch of nostalgia and unbeatable style to any room. It's not just a label - it's a conversation starter, a time machine, and a work of art all rolled into one. Don't miss your chance to own a slice of the past and elevate your living space to new heights of cool. This Doe Carrots crate label isn't just vintage - it's vintage with attitude!

🏷️ What Is Printed on This Label

Read off the sheet itself, verbatim — this is the label's own printed text, not a description of it:

  • DOE
  • BRAND
  • PRODUCE OF U.S.A.
  • 4 DOZ. BUNCHES
  • GROWN AND SHIPPED BY
  • JOE MAGGIO, INC.
  • MAIN OFFICE  HOLTVILLE, CALIF.
  • Strictly Big League
  • CARROTS
  • DOE  [again, on the paper band around the depicted carrot bunch]
  • TRADING MEMBERS  PRODUCE REPORTER CO.  BLUE BOOK  GIVE GOLD STANDARD SERVICE

“Strictly Big League” is printed on the label. That is the baseball line the copy has always gestured at without quoting — and it is the label's own words, not an allusion anyone has to supply.

The Produce Reporter Co. BLUE BOOK emblem sits in the upper right, a circular device lettered TRADING MEMBERS / GIVE GOLD STANDARD SERVICE. That is a printed trade-affiliation mark — the produce trade's equivalent of the citrus Exchange devices — and it appeared on no island.

The artwork, described nowhere until now: the head of a doe looking out at the upper left; a large red five-pointed star over a red-white-green concentric roundel with a cream disc carrying the brand at its centre; and a bunch of carrots at the lower left banded with its own paper wrapper printed DOE, so the brand word appears twice on the sheet.

A very small white mark sits in the extreme bottom-left corner, consistent with a microtype imprint, but it is illegible at the resolution available. No printer is named on that basis, and no short trailing code is read as a year.
