Description

🏺 Hosseinabad: Village Weaving from Hamadan Province

Hosseinabad is a weaving village in the Hamadan region of western Iran — part of the broad Hamadan district that has been producing hand-woven rugs for centuries. The Hamadan region encompasses hundreds of villages, each with its own weaving tradition and design vocabulary, all feeding into the great river of Persian village production that has supplied the world with hand-knotted rugs since the 16th century. Hosseinabad rugs are known for their solid construction, their quality wool, and the traditional geometric-floral compositions that characterize the best Hamadan village production. This vintage runner, circa 1950s, comes from a period when Hosseinabad weaving was fully in its stride. 🌿

🔴 The Red Field Runner

The red field of this Hosseinabad runner is one of the great classic elements of the Persian village rug tradition. The madder-derived reds of Persian village production — warm, glowing, and immensely adaptable to domestic settings across all design traditions — have been the foundation of the Persian rug palette for centuries. Against the rich red ground, the traditional geometric-floral motifs and border system create the layered, intricate visual field that is the hallmark of Hamadan village weaving. 🎨

The low pile and distressed character of this runner are not flaws but the beautiful marks of genuine age — a textile that has served its function across seven decades of life. The patina of use gives this Hosseinabad an authenticity that no new production can replicate. 🕰️

📐 Construction and Condition

Hand-woven in 100% wool, made in Iran. Pile depth approximately 0.30 in. The piece measures 4 ft 2 in by 10 ft 5 in — a classic runner format suited to hallways, staircases, entryways, and long narrow spaces. Condition: vintage with areas of low pile and distressing — the honest marks of genuine mid-century age. Professionally cleaned and inspected. Care: vacuum on low setting without a beater bar, rotate occasionally, protect from direct sunlight. Spot clean with a damp cloth for spills; professional cleaning for deeper maintenance. Rug ID: K1950. 🔬
