This is an original 1930s Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad Company stock certificate with a sweeping engraved view of Pittsburgh across the center, and smaller vignettes of a steam locomotive and a ship at dock at the sides. These weren’t throwaway forms—engravers put real pride into them, knowing they would hang in offices and bank lobbies as proof of success.

The Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad started in 1875 to move unfinished and finished steel between Pittsburgh, PA and the ports and mills around Lake Erie and Youngstown, OH. It was never the biggest railroad on the map, but it moved such a heavy volume of freight that collectors nicknamed it the “Little Giant.” Every cancelled certificate like this one is a leftover trace of that steel‑and‑smoke era.
