🏷️ What Is Printed on This Label

Read off the sheet itself, verbatim — this is the label's own printed text, not a description of it:

  • FALLS
  • BRAND
  • APPLES
  • ONE BUSHEL BY VOLUME
  • CHELAN FALLS ORCHARDS
  • CHELAN FALLS, WASH.
  • U.S.A
  • CROCKER  [see the legibility note below]

The printer's imprint reads CROCKER, in dark microtype on the green foreground strip at the bottom right. Be exact about the limit: the seven letterforms resolve at 10x, but that is the resolution ceiling of the photograph, and no city, state or form number follows it. Nothing beyond the house name is inferred, and no trailing code is read as a year.

The wartime device, described exactly. A red disc bears five white stars in the upper left and horizontal red-and-white stripes across the lower half, with a blue eagle in flight, wings up, superimposed across it; a white military aircraft silhouette sits at the left edge of the disc and a white warship silhouette on the water at the bottom. U.S.A is set in white capitals immediately above the eagle's wing. The copy's wartime reading is correct and supported by the object — it was simply never specific.

The left two thirds of the sheet is a single huge waterfall in airbrushed pale green and cream, pouring over a dark unlit cliff from the top edge and throwing a bank of luminous cream, lavender and yellow mist at its base. There is no printed date.
