The River Lad Asparagus Crate Label, a unique piece of advertising, was crafted by American National Foods, Inc. out of Los Angeles, California, in the 1940s. Its distinct design and historical significance make it a standout in any collection. This label has become increasingly rare for its importance and beauty.

9 1/4" x 9" ~ little to no wear.

Vintage asparagus crate labels were often designed as trapezoids to fit the slanted sides of the wooden crates. This shape ensured that the labels adhered neatly without wrinkles or folds, maintaining their aesthetic appeal and clear readability. It's a blend of practical design and marketing flair that stood out on store shelves.

The Blue Goose brand has a fascinating history! It was initially associated with American Fruit Growers, Inc., a company that started out as a marketing organization in the early 20th century. They would buy the highest-grade fruit from individual growers and packers and sell it under their name. In other cases, they would license the "Blue Goose" brand to individual packers for their highest-quality produce.

The Blue Goose brand was initially used for oranges and grapefruit but quickly expanded to include other fruits like apples and vegetables like asparagus, cabbage, and onions. By 1922, American Fruit Growers had 165 sales offices across the United States and Canada. In 1961, the company changed its name to Blue Goose Growers and focused primarily on citrus.

Once a common sight Crate Label has become a rare and treasured relic of a bygone era. The meticulous lithography process used in its creation, involving a stone or metal plate, is a testament to its unique and unparalleled craftsmanship. With only a few left in the world, this rarity adds a sense of exclusivity and urgency to your purchase, making it a must-have for any serious collector.

Imagine this remarkable vintage advertising, a unique piece of history, adorning the walls of your home. Instead of being confined to a museum, it can bring a touch of nostalgia and elegance to any room in your home. Whether you're a collector, an art enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of the past, this label is a versatile addition to any space, adapting to your unique style and preferences.
