🕰️ This is an original 1946 Crystal Lead Mines Company stock certificate, issued in Wallace, Idaho and associated with the historic Murray and Trout Creek mining districts of Shoshone County.

Crystal Lead Mines Company was incorporated under the laws of Idaho in 1931 — the year struck into the steel die of the corporate seal that is embossed through gold foil on the face. Certificates in this group were made out at Wallace on the last day of January 1946, each one issued on the surrender of an earlier certificate, and the pen record of the one it replaced is carried on the attached counterfoil stub.

The mark in the border: the ornamental border was printed by the Goes company of Chicago, organized in 1879 and selling its bordered certificate blanks by the 1880s. It carries two Goes house marks — a script Goes signature woven into a cartouche in the border ornament, and a small imprint reading © GOES 91 set outside the border at the lower-left corner of the plate. That 91 is the Goes form number for this border — Goes numbers its certificate forms to this day, a Goes 9, a Goes 15, a Goes 21, a Goes 91 — and not a year. There is no 19 in front of it and no date separator. The date that belongs to this certificate is the one written on the certificate.
