Description

For anyone who loves early advertising art, this antique maid broom label is a standout piece. 🌼🧹 Printed sometime between the 1910s and 1920s, it was produced as a stock label for broom makers and never used, surviving today as genuine new old stock. The paper has that softer feel and the lithography has a fine, stippled look you see on the oldest broom labels from this era.

The illustration shows a young woman in a red blouse and white dress holding a broom, with large daisies in the foreground and a softly colored background behind her. She raises a hand toward a flower, giving the scene a light, optimistic feel. A yellow border frames the entire image. Above the scene is a wide blank green panel, and below it is a blank panel in warm color. These panels were originally left empty so a broom factory could overprint its brand name and line information.

✨ Rarity that matters

Authentic broom labels from the 1910s–1920s have become genuinely scarce. When broom factories closed, merged, or updated packaging, most of their obsolete labels went straight into the trash. The bundles that survived were often kept by printers or collectors and are now mostly tucked away in albums and private collections. There are not many chances left to pick up unused labels from this early period one at a time.

✏️ Personalize it

The blank top and bottom panels give you a lot of room to make this piece your own:

  • Add a family name and “Laundry Room” or “Cleaning Crew”

  • Write in a wedding or housewarming date

  • Add a short quote or phrase that fits the scene

Once lettered, you can frame it and turn a piece of anonymous packaging into a personalized gift that still keeps all of its antique charm.

🎨 Early commercial illustration

This label is also a reminder of how much quiet talent went into everyday advertising. A professional illustrator created the figure, flowers, and layout for a printer, expecting the work to live its life on store shelves and then disappear. There’s no signature and no credit line—just a small “43 LITHO IN U.S.A.” at the bottom margin. Keeping and displaying it gives that artwork a second career as wall art instead of landfill.

📏 Details

  • Era: circa 1910s–1920s

  • Size: approx. 6" x 3 1/2"

  • Condition: original NOS, unused label with bright color and fine detail

  • Marking: “43 LITHO IN U.S.A.” along the bottom edge; no broom brand printed

🖼 Display ideas

Frame it for a kitchen, laundry room, pantry, mudroom, or cleaning‑supply nook. It also pairs nicely with other early broom labels—Peacock, Junior, Broomette, and floral designs—if you’re building a wall dedicated to vintage broom advertising. Either way, it brings a lot of early 1900s personality into a very small footprint. ✨🌼🧹
