Description

If you like your vintage paper with real artwork on it, this antique Peacock broom label is about as good as it gets. 🦚🧹 Printed sometime between the 1910s and 1920s, it was produced as a stock broom label—meant to be wrapped around broom handles—then never used. Now it survives as genuine new old stock, ready to be framed as art instead of thrown away with a worn‑out broom.

The central illustration is a fully fanned peacock, standing on a path with a soft landscape behind it. Every feather eye is picked out in blues, greens, and warm golds. A green, almost Art Nouveau border frames the scene, surrounded by a bold red outer border. A row of small circles in different colors sits just above the lower panel, tying the whole design together. Both the top and bottom panels are blank, just as they were when these left the printer, because the broom maker was supposed to overprint their brand name and product details there.

✨ Rarity that’s real

Authentic broom labels from this early period are becoming genuinely scarce. Most unused stock was tossed when small broom factories closed or were modernized, and many of the surviving labels have already been absorbed into permanent collections or long‑held albums. New finds from the 1910s–1920s are few and far between now, so it’s unusual to see an original antique broom label with this level of illustration offered one at a time instead of locked away in a file.

✏️ Make it your own

The blank panels were meant for overprinting 100 years ago, but they’re a gift for you now. You can carefully hand‑letter:

  • A family name and established date

  • “Laundry Room,” “Cleaning Crew,” or another room label

  • A wedding date or housewarming date

  • A short phrase or in‑joke

before you frame it. That turns this piece of anonymous commercial packaging into a personalized, one‑of‑a‑kind gift while keeping all the original antique printing and color.

🎨 Anonymous commercial artwork

Like most broom labels, this design was created by an unsung commercial artist working for a printer, not a gallery. They painted peacocks, bluebirds, landscapes, and other scenes to help sell everyday products, usually with no signature and no recognition. The labels were meant to be used up and thrown away. Collecting and displaying them is one way to give that lost artwork a second life and let the illustration be appreciated on its own terms.
