Description

đŸč Step back into the wild days of Prohibition with this rare 1920s “Wisckey” whiskey flavor pharmacy label from Chemical Industrial Co., R. De Angelis, Pharmacist, Providence, Rhode Island. At about 2 1/4" x 1 3/4", this little New Old Stock survivor is packed with detail, history, and charm. It was made to flavor non‑alcoholic beverages so they tasted like whiskey, a wonderfully odd workaround from an even stranger time in American history.

🐍 The artwork is incredible. Two coiled snakes wrap around vivid orange poppy flowers, all set against a shimmering gilded gold field with bold, stylized lettering that proudly announces “Imitation Flavor Wisckey” for non‑alcoholic beverages, artificial color. The mix of pharmacy symbolism, eye‑catching color, and early advertising design makes this label feel more like a tiny work of art than simple packaging. It begs to be framed, displayed with old bottles, or tucked into a back‑bar vignette.

đŸ„ Behind the label is a real pharmacist’s story. Raffaele De Angelis was born in Italy and moved to Providence in 1904, eventually operating under the Chemical Industrial Co. name. His effervescent preparations and citrate of magnesia products are preserved today in major collections like the Smithsonian’s patent medicine holdings, a testament to how widely his remedies were sold. His success allowed him to build his own pharmacy, and he was remembered locally as a generous man who would often let customers “pay later” when they needed help.

đŸ„ƒ The charming “Wisckey” misspelling likely reflects his Italian heritage and accent, and it adds even more personality to an already memorable label. With the kind of success his products enjoyed, there was simply no need to fix a spelling that customers clearly recognized. Instead, it became part of the brand’s character, and now it’s one of the details that makes this piece so collectible to modern ephemera and pharmacy advertising fans.

đŸ§Ÿ This label is New Old Stock, never used, with strong color and crisp printing for its age. The small format makes it incredibly versatile: frame it on its own, mount it with an old apothecary bottle, use it as the focal point of a speakeasy‑style gallery wall, or slide it into a vintage bar display alongside cocktail shakers and bitters bottles. Wherever you place it, the snakes, poppies, and gold will instantly draw the eye.

🎁 Perfect for collectors of antique pharmacy items, prohibition‑era memorabilia, advertising ephemera, whiskey and cocktail dĂ©cor, or anyone who loves a bit of quirky, authentic history on their walls. Just one of those pieces that makes people lean in and say, “Wait
 Wisckey?”
