What Was a Par-T-Pak? 🥤 Antique NOS 1930s–1940s Nehi Cork Bottle Cap, Grand Rapids, Michigan

Size: 1 1/4"

🆕 New Old Stock (NOS) — unused and uncrimped with original cork liner.

Vintage Par‑T‑Pak bottle cap from the Nehi Corporation, out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, dating to the late 1930s to early 1940s. PAR-T-PAK in big green letters with a tall T through the middle, "Trade Mark," and "A Nehi Product" around the bottom, on a cream face with a green ring. The skirt is stamped CCS for Crown Cork & Seal. Like every uncrimped crown, it measures 1 1/4 inches across.

🎉 America's Party Drink

Nehi launched Par‑T‑Pak in 1933, the year Prohibition ended, and that's no coincidence. These were big quart bottles, 32 ounces, sold as the economical size for a party, and the line ran to cola, ginger ale, club soda, black cherry, lemon-lime, orange, grape, strawberry, root beer and a Tom Collins mixer. The slogan was "When you celebrate… Enjoy America's Party Drink!" By the 1950s the ads were selling them straight as mixers: "No longer do highballs have to be swizzled or stirred!"

Nehi itself goes back to 1924, when Claud Hatcher's Chero-Cola company of Columbus, Georgia brought out a line of fruit flavors in tall bottles, "knee-high," which is where the name came from. The company renamed itself the Nehi Corporation in 1928, and in 1955 it became the Royal Crown Company, after its RC Cola.

Grand Rapids had its own Nehi Bottling Company, going back to 1929, so a Par-T-Pak party quart was a Grand Rapids drink too. And a little Michigan footnote I love: archaeologists at Michigan State University dug a 32-ounce Nehi Cola Par‑T‑Pak bottle out of the old East Lansing dump under the Brody and Emmons halls, a dump that was in use until the late 1930s.

The intact cork liner fits pre‑war production. This cap was never used on a bottle.
