Remember Pharmacist Rx Decals? 💊 Pharmacist Prescription R X Caduceus Decal, Embla Crest, Sealed on Its Card

Size: 3" ~ Factory sealed, little to no wear. ~ It is unknown if the adhesive still works, as that is usually the first thing to fail.

Embla Crest, a rare vintage 1960s Pharmacist Prescription Decal, is a highly collectible Item. Factory sealed. These are likely the last of their kind in the world, serving as a poignant reminder of a time when we celebrated our community and their contributions. It's a silver foil emblem with a black winged caduceus over a teal green field crossed by a silver cross, with R and X on either side of the staff. Please note discoloration is from the glare, my apologies.

It is unknown if the adhesive still works, as that is usually the first thing to fail. It may require assistance, also known as glue, to affix. Little to no wear.

🏷️ What's Printed on It

  • R X
  • Card: EMBLA CREST, EASY TO APPLY-SELF-STICK, 49¢
  • Made in U.S.A., on the card

It comes on a yellow Embla Crest hang card, sealed in its clear sleeve.

🐍 Neat Fact

Neat fact about this piece. The caduceus was a symbol for Hermes, the Greek God, commerce, and negotiation throughout history. Somehow, in the USA, we got it confused with the Rod of Asclepius, which traditionally was a medical symbol but has only one snake and no wings. Even today, we still use these symbols interchangeably.

A big reason is the U.S. Army. Its Medical Department formally adopted the caduceus in 1902, with Captain Frederick P. Reynolds pushing for it, and that popularized the two snakes and wings all over American medicine.

💊 What Rx Means

The Rx on every prescription comes from the first word of a medieval prescription, the Latin recipe, which means take, with the R crossed to show it's an abbreviation. Folk theories tie it to the Eye of Horus or the old symbol for Jupiter, but no evidence has ever turned up for those. So every prescription your pharmacist fills still starts with an old Latin instruction: take this.

🏷️ Embla Crest

The Embla Crest brand was recognized for producing high-end vintage decals as part of the Atlantic Emblem Company, particularly during the 1960s and 1970s, which was located in Walterboro, South Carolina. These decals, often elaborate, reflective, and self-adhesive, were used for travel, suitcases, or advertising purposes and are not just collectible items but also pieces of art. One of the Embla Crest cards prints the company's Walterboro name right under the Embla Crest banner.

🏡 Display

It's a perfect gift for a pharmacist, a pharmacy tech or a pharmacy student, and it looks great framed on its card behind the counter.
