It puts you right back on the couch watching the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote whose epic battles are so nostalgic. This is a vintage 1995 Looney Tunes pinback button, still sealed in its original clear bag. Wile E. Coyote stands front and center with one finger up, clearly hatching another plan, while the Road Runner leans in right behind him with that smug little grin, all on a hot pink ground with an orange zigzag starburst and a big yellow LOONEY TUNES across the bottom.
The backing cards aren't all one color - blue, yellow, white and pink so far, and maybe more. It's a wire-pin back, never opened, never worn.
Chuck Jones and writer Michael Maltese dreamed up the pair for Warner Bros. Cartoons in 1948, and their first cartoon, "Fast and Furry-ous," came out on September 17, 1949. The whole formula was right there from the start: a hungry coyote, a bird he could never catch, and a mail-order company called Acme that sold him rockets, magnets, giant slingshots and earthquake pills that never once worked. The Road Runner's famous "beep, beep" came from Paul Julian imitating a car horn.
Jones even wrote himself a set of rules for the series. The Road Runner could only hurt the Coyote by going "beep, beep," and gravity was supposed to be the Coyote's greatest enemy. The opening title cards gave them fake Latin names, like Carnivorous Vulgaris for Wile E. and Acceleratti Incredibilus for the bird. All told, 49 cartoons starring the two had been made by 2014, most of them directed by Jones himself.
I appreciate the classics! It's a fun gift for any Looney Tunes fan, and it looks great in a shadow box or pinned right on a jacket or a backpack, if you can bring yourself to open it. The supply is finite - once these last sealed 1995 Road Runner pins are gone, they'll be very difficult to acquire.
