Old No. 7 on Your Lapel? 🥃 Vintage Jack Daniel's Black Label Enamel Pin, NOS, Tennessee

Size: 1"

🥃 This vintage Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 black label enamel pin is a sharp little tribute to one of the most recognizable whiskey labels in the world, preserved in new old stock (NOS) condition. The front is finished in glossy black enamel with the gold label artwork fully sealed under clear enamel, so the surface is totally smooth to the touch—more like a tiny glassy version of the bottle label than a rough metal badge.

🖤 The design echoes the classic Old No. 7 square‑bottle label Jack Daniel began using in the late 1800s, when he wanted his Tennessee whiskey to stand out from the crowd. The distinctive black label, ornate border, and oval “Old No. 7” emblem helped build the Lynchburg brand’s identity and soon became a global symbol of American whiskey.

💬 The true meaning of “Old No. 7” has become part of Jack Daniel’s legend. Stories claim it was Jack’s seventh recipe or a lucky number, but research into old tax records points to his original government‑issued distillery registration No. 7, which later changed after a bureaucratic re‑districting. Jack is believed to have kept “Old No. 7” on the label out of pride and stubbornness, and that mystery only added to the brand’s charm.

Because it’s NOS, the enamel remains clear and bright with no bar‑wear scratches or clouding.

🔍 What's on the Pin

Look close and the gold lettering reads "JackDaniels" with no apostrophe, then "Old No. 7" in its oval, "Tennessee" in script and WHISKEY in block letters, all inside a little scroll-and-chain border like the bottle's. The back is plain plate with a yellow rubber clutch on the post. There's no maker's mark, no country and no date anywhere on it. Yours will match the one in the photos.

🏚️ Lynchburg, Tennessee

The label on the bottle says "Est. & Reg. in 1866," and that's the date the company has always used. The distillery's modern biographer went through the registration papers and puts the business at 1875, so take your pick. Either way it's in Lynchburg, in Moore County, which has been a dry county for most of its history, so for years you could tour one of the most famous distilleries in the world and not buy a drink in the county it sits in.

The man behind it was Jasper Newton "Jack" Daniel, and the company now credits Nathan "Nearest" Green, an enslaved man who became a free master distiller, with teaching young Jack the trade, including the charcoal filtering that makes Tennessee whiskey what it is. The square bottle came along in 1895. Tennessee went dry in 1910, and even after national Prohibition ended in 1933 the state's own ban held until 1938, so it was 1938 before the whiskey was made at home in Lynchburg again. Brown-Forman bought the company in 1956.

And then there's the safe. The story every old-timer tells is that Jack came in early one morning, couldn't remember the combination, kicked the safe, hurt his toe, and the infection killed him in 1911. He did die of blood poisoning that year; his biographer doubts the safe had anything to do with it. It's a good story anyway.

🍀 It’s an ideal small gift for a Jack Daniel’s fan, Tennessee whiskey drinker, bartender, or anyone who loves vintage bar advertising and brewery/distillery ephemera. Display it in a shadowbox with other pins and patches, or actually wear it out as a subtle nod to your favorite pour.

You will receive one original vintage Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 black label smooth enamel pin, approx. 1" square, NOS with working pin‑back, a genuine promotional/merch piece.
