Remember Charles Wells Lemonade? 🍋 Charles Wells Lemonade Bottle Label, Bedford, England

Size: 3 1/2" x 3" ~ Unused.

This is a rare vintage Charles Wells Lemonade label from Bedford, England, in sunny yellow with a red eagle crest, CHARLES WELLS and LEMONADE in bold black and blue letters, and a pattern of pale bubbles rising up the label. This label is a very unique one as this company was and is famous for its beer.

🏷️ What's Printed on It

  • CHARLES WELLS LEMONADE
  • INGREDIENTS: WATER, SUGAR, CARBON DIOXIDE, CITRIC ACID, FLAVOURINGS, ARTIFICIAL SWEETENER - SACCHARIN, PRESERVATIVES (E211, E223)
  • BOTTLED FOR CHARLES WELLS LTD., BEDFORD, ENGLAND
  • 710 ml, BEST BEFORE
  • That BEST BEFORE box is a good clue to its age: Britain first brought in best-before labeling in 1980, under the Food Labelling Regulations. The back is blank.

    🍺 Charles Wells of Bedford

This company is an English classic. It was founded in 1876 by... I bet you can't guess??? Ok, Charles Wells, sorry to hold you in suspense. Charles was born in Bedford in 1842, left school at 14 and ran away to sea, and when he gave up the sea he started the Charles Wells Family Brewery in 1876.

Really neat fact, and probably why their beer and soda are so popular: water is an essential ingredient for any beverage, obviously, and Wells knew good water was vital to the best drink. In 1902 he climbed a local hill a couple of miles from the brewery and sank his own well into an underground reservoir, purified through layers of chalk and limestone.

In 2017 the company sold its brewery and brands like Young's and Courage to Marston's for £55 million, and it's still running strong, with over 200 pubs in England and 13 more in France, still in the family's hands with the fifth generation coming into the business. It won Pub Company of the Year at The Publican Awards two years running, in 2009 and 2010, along with the Retention Award at the Springboard Awards in 2010 and 2012 and Best Recruitment Initiative in 2011.

    🏡 Display

They aren't making any more vintage labels obviously so once the limited supply for sale is gone and on display with collectors or in galleries then they will be very difficult to acquire. Imagine hanging this vintage advertising on your wall as home decor in any room!
