Who Was P.C.C.? 🥤 Vintage NOS 1960s Cream Soda Cork-Lined Bottle Cap

Size: 1 1/4"

🥤 A Vintage New Old Stock (NOS) Cream Soda bottle cap from the 1960s, never crimped, with its original cork liner. Like every uncrimped crown it measures 1 1/4" across.

Bold white CREAM SODA on a deep royal blue, with the ingredients running around the rim: Contains sugar, water, benzoate of soda solution, citric acid, caramel color. Tip it on its side and the skirt names the bottler: Seven-Up Bottling Co., Hagerstown, Md., with the crown maker's little P.C.C. mark on the edge.

That skirt dates it, too. After "Md." comes the ZIP code, and ZIP codes only started on July 1, 1963, so this cap was printed after that. The cork liner puts it before plastic liners took over later in the 1960s. Caps from this same Hagerstown bottler turn up for birch beer, grapefruit drink, Double Cola and more, so it clearly bottled a whole lineup alongside 7 Up itself.

🚂 Hagerstown, the Hub City

Hagerstown began with Jonathan Hager, a German immigrant who bought land there in 1739 and founded the town in 1762 as Elizabethtown, after his wife. It became Hager's-Town in 1813, and Hager is remembered as the father of Washington County. So many railroads met there, the Western Maryland and the Baltimore and Ohio among them, that it earned the nickname the Hub City.

The Civil War came right to its door. Antietam, the bloodiest single day in American history, was fought just down the road, and in 1864 Confederate General John McCausland rode in and held the town for ransom: $20,000 and a load of clothing. The story goes that General Jubal Early had meant to ask for $200,000 and somebody dropped a zero. Later, Hagerstown built airplanes, too, and Fairchild Aircraft made parts there until 1984.

A genuine piece of American soda history 🇺🇸 from a real Maryland bottler, ideal for collectors of vintage advertising, bottle caps, and beverage memorabilia.

Returns & Exchange

Take your time — you've got a full six months. If a piece isn't right for you, send it back the way it reached you and we're good.

In the first 30 days your money goes straight back the way you paid. After that it's store credit, so you can put it toward something you'd rather have.

Return shipping we sort out between us, case by case. I don't make this difficult.

If something arrives damaged, or it isn't what I said it was, send me a photo within 48 hours and I'll make it right.

Email info@vintageantiquesgifts.com or call 802-356-9872 — that's me answering, not a call center.

The only things I can't take back are custom or special-order pieces and gift cards.
