It's worth noting that our photographs simply can't do justice to the sheer beauty and craftsmanship of this antique crate label. The stunning lithography process used to create these labels is truly unparalleled, even by today's standards. It's no wonder that museums and art institutes have entire galleries dedicated to these remarkable pieces of commercial art.

As more collectors seek out these vintage treasures to preserve their historical significance, the limited supply available for sale is rapidly dwindling. Once these McIntosh crate labels find their way into private collections or gallery displays, they'll become incredibly difficult to acquire. Imagine the impact of this amazing vintage advertising piece adorning the walls of your home instead of being tucked away in a museum archive. As we approach the label's 100th birthday, it's on the cusp of achieving full antique status, making it an even more desirable collector's item. Don't let this chance to own a piece of American agricultural history slip away – add this stunning McIntosh crate label to your collection today!

📋 What Is Printed On This Label

Every line of type on the sheet, transcribed from the label itself rather than paraphrased:

  • Famous
  • MARION COUNTY
  • CITRUS
  • McINTOSH
  • Brand
  • PRODUCE OF U.S.A.
  • PACKED BY
  • O. D. HUFF, JR.
  • GROVES, INC.
  • McINTOSH, FLA.

Printer: no lithographer's imprint, form number or plate code appears anywhere on this sheet. None is claimed here.

This is a citrus label, and the sheet says so. Famous / MARION COUNTY / CITRUS is printed in large type across the top. McIntosh here is the town — McIntosh, Marion County, Florida — and the brand takes its name from the town, not from the apple cultivar of the same name.

Packer, not printer. The firm named on the label is the house that grew, packed or shipped the fruit. It did not make the label — commercial lithographers did that, and where one signed the sheet the imprint is quoted above.

On condition. These are sold from an unused stack, so this describes the printing rather than one individual sheet: the ink is unfaded, the stock is unmounted and ungummed, and the sheet was never applied to a crate. Anything materially wrong with a particular sheet is disclosed plainly.
