Why a Crown on Canada Dry? 🥤 Retro NOS 2000s Bottle Cap

Size: 1 1/4"

👑 A Retro New Old Stock (NOS) Canada Dry bottle cap 🥤 from the 2000s, unused and never crimped, so it measures 1 1/4" across like every uncrimped crown. Deep green with the famous badge in silver: a crown on top, a shield with the map grid on it, SINCE 1904 across the top of the shield and CANADA DRY® across the middle. Twist Off runs around the skirt, and inside it's plastic-lined. That silver shield with Since 1904 arched over the name is the badge Canada Dry used in the 2000s, so that's when this one was printed.

🏭 These caps are old stock from Dr. Pepper Bottling Co. of West Jefferson, North Carolina, up in the Blue Ridge in Ashe County, a family bottler that H.R. Vannoy started in 1937 and that carried Canada Dry right alongside Dr Pepper. In the 1940s it ran out of the two-story brick building downtown that still wears a faded Dr. Pepper-Grapette Bottling Co. sign; the Vannoy family still owns the company, and it's still bottling today at its plant out on NC 163.

👑 Since 1904

That "Since 1904" is the year John J. McLaughlin, a Toronto pharmacist and the eldest son of carriage and car maker Robert McLaughlin, came up with his lighter "Pale Dry" ginger ale, "dry" meaning not sweet, like a dry wine. The Canada Dry name was registered in January 1907, his wife Maud gave it the slogan "The Champagne of Ginger Ales," and a map of Canada went on the label. When the company got a royal appointment to the Governor General's household, a crown went on top. The crown and shield are still on this cap a century later.

🍸 In 1923 P. D. Saylor and Associates bought the business and took it public as Canada Dry Ginger Ale, Inc., and Prohibition made it a staple: it covered the taste of homemade liquor so well that by 1930 Canada Dry was selling ten million bottles a year. Norton Simon bought it in 1964, Dr Pepper in 1982, Cadbury Schweppes in 1986, and today it's Keurig Dr Pepper's.

A genuine piece of American soda history 🇺🇸, ideal for collectors of vintage advertising, bottle caps, and beverage memorabilia.

Returns & Exchange

Take your time — you've got a full six months. If a piece isn't right for you, send it back the way it reached you and we're good.

In the first 30 days your money goes straight back the way you paid. After that it's store credit, so you can put it toward something you'd rather have.

Return shipping we sort out between us, case by case. I don't make this difficult.

If something arrives damaged, or it isn't what I said it was, send me a photo within 48 hours and I'll make it right.

Email info@vintageantiquesgifts.com or call 802-356-9872 — that's me answering, not a call center.

The only things I can't take back are custom or special-order pieces and gift cards.
