Prepare to be dazzled by this extraordinary piece of agricultural history! Now available for purchase online is a captivating vintage crate label from the swinging 1960s, showcasing the unforgettable "Oh Yes We Grow The Best Pears" design. This remarkable antique vintage treasure was produced by the renowned DiGiorgio Fruit Corp. in Marysville, California. Measuring an impressive 11 x 7 1/2 inches, this crate label is not just a feast for the eyes but also a window into the golden age of California's fruit industry.

But wait, there's more! This particular label harbors a fascinating secret that sets it apart from other vintage crate labels. During its creation, the plate was deliberately altered. The owner's own note, which runs verbatim on the marketplace listings, reads: “It appears they blocked a part of their name on their litho plate and were not very accurate as you can still see the period and then printed the new address underneath. I believe it did say, San Francisco, Calif.” The object bears him out — the bar is a clean, straight-edged, deliberate overprint, a small dark period survives just past its right end, and MARYSVILLE, CALIFORNIA 95901 is set below it. What the bar covered cannot be read from the sheet and is not guessed at here.

This clever modification is a rarity in the world of vintage crate labels, elevating this piece to a truly exceptional status. It perfectly encapsulates the spirit of 1960s California, blending the romance of traditional fruit farming with the pragmatism and creativity of the era. Imagine the stories this label could tell – of sun-drenched orchards, bustling packing houses, and the ingenuity of those who worked tirelessly to bring the finest fruits to market.

Whether you're a seasoned collector of antique vintage memorabilia, an enthusiast of fruit crate art, or simply someone who appreciates the charm of bygone days, this label is guaranteed to be a conversation starter. Its nostalgic allure and intriguing backstory make it more than just a decorative piece – it's a slice of Americana that brings history to life. Picture this unique crate label adorning your walls, adding a touch of vintage sophistication to your home or office decor. Don't let this opportunity slip through your fingers – seize the chance to own a piece of California's agricultural heritage today!

🏷️ What Is Printed on This Label

Read off the sheet itself, verbatim — this is the label's own printed text, not a description of it:

  • Di Giorgio
  • FRUIT
  • CORPORATION
  • [a solid dark overprint bar covering one line of type, with a small period surviving just past its right end]
  • MARYSVILLE, CALIFORNIA 95901
  • OH YES!
  • WE GROW THE BEST
  • CALIFORNIA
  • PEARS
  • CONTENTS
  • 4/5 BUSHEL
  • PRODUCE OF U.S.A.

The ZIP code is printed on the label — 95901 — and it is the best dating evidence the sheet has. Five-digit ZIP codes began in July 1963, so the address line itself puts this printing at 1963 or later and supports the 1960s date directly, rather than by assertion.

The design had never been described on any island. A pale sky-blue outer margin frames a deep navy field; dead centre stands a large cream triangle, apex up, outlined first in a heavy chrome-yellow rule and then a fine dark keyline, carrying OH YES! in very large red serif capitals over WE GROW THE BEST and then CALIFORNIA / PEARS in navy. A large painted golden-orange pear with stem and two dark green leaves flanks the triangle on each side, both leaning inward.

The brand script is set with a clear space — Di Giorgio, two words — and the overprint bar sits directly beneath CORPORATION, i.e. under the firm-name block and above the address, which is consistent with the owner's reading that the covered line was the old city line.
