šŸ’š This listing is forĀ one original Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P) stock certificate, theĀ greenĀ variety issued between theĀ 1950s and 1970s. These certificates share the same dramatic design as the orange version: bold engraved border, the classicĀ A&PĀ roundel held by two allegorical figures at the top, and detailed text on cream‑colored security paper aboutĀ 13 1/2" x 9 1/2"Ā in size. The green ink gives this version a slightly more formal, ā€œWall Streetā€ feel while keeping the big mid‑century look.

šŸ›’ TheĀ Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, better known asĀ A&P, started in 1859 as a tea and coffee business and grew into one of the most important grocery chains in American history. FromĀ 1915 through 1975, A&P was theĀ largest grocery retailer in the United States, and until 1965 it was the largest U.S. retailer of any kind. At its peak it operated thousands of stores and huge production facilities—bakeries, dairy plants, coffee‑ and tea‑roasting operations—supplying its own branded products to locations across the country.

Certificates like this one carry a paper trail from their working life — things like endorsement signatures, transfer-agent stamps, revenue stamps, cancellation punches, staple holes, or pencil ledger notes. That is provenance, not a defect — evidence of a genuine, working piece of paper rather than a modern reproduction.

šŸ¬ A&P helped pioneer the self‑service supermarket and the idea of a standardized chain store where shoppers could expect similar layouts and prices wherever they went. For mid‑century shoppers the A&P logo was a familiar part of everyday life, later compared to the recognition level of today’s biggest national brands. After decades of competition and changing shopping habits, A&P went through multiple restructurings before finally closing all remaining stores inĀ 2015, ending more than 150 years of operation.

šŸ“œ Stock certificates like this tie that retail story into a much longer history of investing. TheĀ oldest known share certificateĀ dates to the Dutch East India Company inĀ 1606, and for centuries engraved documents were the standard proof of ownership in companies. By the late twentieth and early twenty‑first centuries, most corporations had moved to electronic record‑keeping and stopped issuing paper, leaving earlier pieces such as these A&P issues as tangible relics of that tradition.

šŸ–Šļø Each green A&P certificate carries printed officer signatures and often transfer stamps or small notations that hint at its path through investors’ hands. Collectors sometimes research those names for extra provenance, but even if you never go that deep, the combination of green border, angel vignette, and bold A&P logo makes a strong visual statement.

šŸ–¼ļø Framed under glass, this green certificate is striking dĆ©cor for a kitchen, office, bar, or grocery‑themed space, and it pairs especially well with the orange and blue A&P issues for a complete color set. It also fits nicely into collections focused on retail history, mid‑century design, or classic American brands.

šŸ“ Approximate sizeĀ 13 1/2" x 9 1/2". You will receiveĀ one authentic green Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company stock certificate, issued between theĀ 1950s and 1970s, from the same type shown—original vintage scripophily and supermarket history, not a modern reprint.
