🤖 An original Terminator 2: 3‑D postcard from Universal Studios Florida, made for the park's T2 3-D: Battle Across Time attraction. The Terminator stares straight out at you with electrical arcs crackling around his face, under the neon Universal Studios Florida® marquee and TERMINATOR 2 / 3-D / BATTLE ACROSS TIME.

Under the title on the front, small print reads "T2 and Terminator 2 are trademarks of Carolco." Turn it over and it reads "The future is now at Universal Studios Florida® with TERMINATOR 2 / 3D" and "An MCA/Rank Organisation Joint Venture © Universal Studios Florida", with the stock number 847442 and the printer's line EAST/WEST Productions, Malibu CA / Boston MA / Orlando FL, Printed in the U.S.A. That joint-venture line is a nice little clue: MCA and Britain's Rank Organisation built and ran the park 50/50, and Rank sold its half in 2000, so this card comes from the attraction's early years in the late 1990s.

🎬 James Cameron's $24 million ride

T2 3-D opened at Universal Studios Florida on April 27, 1996, and it was no ordinary theme park show. James Cameron directed it together with effects wizards Stan Winston and John Bruno, and he brought back the whole cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong and Robert Patrick as the T-1000. The film ran just 12 minutes but cost $24 million, which made it one of the most expensive films ever made per minute. It was shot in 70mm 3-D and shown at 30 frames a second, with 156 speakers pounding the room, and it mixed the screen with the stage: live actors, stunt riders and 8-foot T-70 robots came right out into the theater.

The show was such a hit it opened at Universal Studios Hollywood in 1999 and Universal Studios Japan in 2001. Florida finally closed it on October 9, 2017, to make way for the Bourne Stuntacular.
