Where Was Dad's Old Fashioned Cream Soda Born? 🥤 Retro NOS Bottle Cap, Chicago IL • Jasper IN

Size: 1 1/4"

🥤 NOS Dad’s Old Fashioned Cream Soda bottle cap, never crimped, a brand born in Chicago, Illinois and bottled under the authority of the Dad's company in Jasper, Indiana.

🧢 Cream with a big blue panel, DAD'S® in yellow with Old Fashioned in red script underneath, a red-edged CREAM SODA box, and Caffeine Free up top. Around the skirt: Produced under the authority of the Dad's Root Beer Co. LLC, Jasper, IN 47546, www.dadsrootbeer.com and TWIST OFF →, plus a tiny FAMOSA stamped low on the edge, the mark of Fábricas Monterrey, the big crown maker in Monterrey, Mexico. Like every uncrimped crown it measures 1 1/4" across.

That web address and the Jasper LLC tell you when it's from: the Dad's company only moved to Jasper in 2007, so this is a modern-era cap from the Jasper years, a fun, bright one for a collection that runs right up to today.

🏭 Dad's, from a Chicago basement

Ely Klapman and Barney Berns started Dad's in the basement of Klapman's Chicago-area home in the 1930s; the trademark papers say the name was in use from February 1937. They called it Dad's Old Fashioned Root Beer in honor of Klapman's father. Dad's was the first product to use the six-pack carton invented by the Atlanta Paper Company in the 1940s, and the first to sell a half-gallon bottle, sized like a family: Junior, Mama (a quart) and Papa (the half gallon). Pretty big ideas for a basement outfit. The Klapman and Berns families sold the name to IC Industries of Chicago in 1971, the Monarch Beverage Company took it over in 1986, and in 2007 Hedinger Brands of Jasper, Indiana bought Dad's, and the company has made its home there ever since.

🌲 Jasper, Indiana

Jasper is a German Catholic town in Dubois County, founded in 1818 and platted in 1830. The story goes it was almost named Eleanor, but it ended up named for a passage in the Bible, Revelation 21:19, the jasper stone in the foundation of the holy city. Its furniture makers earned it the nickname "Wood Capital of the World," and every August the town throws Strassenfest for its German sister city, Pfaffenweiler, and puts away more than 1,300 pounds of bratwurst.

🔧 New Old Stock, unused and uncrimped.

Returns & Exchange

Take your time — you've got a full six months. If a piece isn't right for you, send it back the way it reached you and we're good.

In the first 30 days your money goes straight back the way you paid. After that it's store credit, so you can put it toward something you'd rather have.

Return shipping we sort out between us, case by case. I don't make this difficult.

If something arrives damaged, or it isn't what I said it was, send me a photo within 48 hours and I'll make it right.

Email info@vintageantiquesgifts.com or call 802-356-9872 — that's me answering, not a call center.

The only things I can't take back are custom or special-order pieces and gift cards.
