Go Dawgs in 1994? 🏈 Vintage Georgia Bulldogs NCAA Temporary Tattoos, Sealed

Size: 5 1/2" x 4 1/2"

Officially licensed, still sealed, 1994.

An unopened pack of University of Georgia Bulldogs temporary tattoos from TAG Express, still sealed in the original clear sleeve with its tamper stamps. The card reads Temporary Tattoos, Contains: 4 Assorted Transfers, University of Georgia, The Georgia BULLDOG®, the Collegiate Licensed Product™ roundel, and Applies in seconds, Lasts for days, Easy to remove, Safe non-toxic. Across the bottom of the front runs the line that dates it, Licensed To and Manufactured By Highgate Products, Inc. 1994, and up in the corner there's a Made in USA done in stars-and-stripes letters. The back carries the Officially Licensed Collegiate Products seal, Licensed To Highgate Products, Inc., Manufactured for TAG Express, Duluth, GA and Made in U.S.A. by Highgate Products, Inc., along with the application steps (they promise 3 to 5 days on the skin). My favorite part is the panel that reads Tag Express offers a complete line of auto and home accessories: auto tags, auto tag frames, static cling decals, bumper strips, auto sun shades, mirror backers, key tags, gear tags, doorknob hangers, light switchplate covers and bookmarks. In Georgia a car tag is your license plate, and car tags lead that list, so these tattoos came from a car-accessory company in Duluth, out in Gwinnett County about 30 miles northeast of Atlanta.

This is the era before college merchandise lived in a national webstore. It was sold at the stadium gate, in campus bookstores and in local sporting goods shops, printed in a run, and then gone.

🏈 Between the hedges

Georgia's traditions are older than most of the stadiums they are played in. Sanford Stadium opened on October 12, 1929, when Georgia beat Yale 15–0 in front of more than 30,000 people, and the privet hedges around the field have been there since the opening, so "between the hedges" has meant Athens ever since. The stadium is named for Steadman V. Sanford, who came to Georgia in 1903 as an English instructor and rose to university president. The original hedges even had to come out for the 1996 Olympic soccer tournament, just two years after this pack was printed, because soccer needs a wider field.

And then there's Uga. Since 1956 every one of Georgia's live English bulldogs has come from the same Savannah family, Sonny Seiler's. Uga I was a wedding present, coach Wally Butts asked to use him as the mascot, and a law school friend came up with the name. Every Uga wears a spiked collar and a red jersey made from the same fabric as the players', and the dogs rest in a mausoleum right in the stadium. Uga V made the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1997 after lunging at an Auburn receiver. Red and black on a cream card is exactly that.

Sold as one sealed pack.

Return shipping we sort out between us, case by case. I don't make this difficult.

If something arrives damaged, or it isn't what I said it was, send me a photo within 48 hours and I'll make it right.

Email info@vintageantiquesgifts.com or call 802-356-9872 — that's me answering, not a call center.

The only things I can't take back are custom or special-order pieces and gift cards.
