Mickey in his Santa suit, grinning right at you from a big 3-inch button. This is a pin from Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party of 2000, Walt Disney World's after-hours holiday party, and they show little to no wear.
Mine are unused stock that came all together in a factory-sealed bag, and that bag stayed sealed until I opened it to take these pictures. The purple ring around Mickey spells out MICKEY'S VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS PARTY 2000, with a little ornament hanging at the top.
Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party started at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, Florida, on December 16, 1983, and it's still going. It's a separate, specially ticketed event held on select nights in November and December, from the evening until midnight, with holiday parades down Main Street, U.S.A., Christmas fireworks and treats handed out around the park. A button with the year on it was made for that one season's party, and this one is from the Christmas of 2000.
The 2000 party fell right in the middle of Walt Disney World's Millennium Celebration, which ran from October 1999 into the first days of 2001. That's the same celebration that kicked off official Disney pin trading in October 1999, with Pin Central at Epcot as the very first trading spot. It was only supposed to last as long as the Millennium did, but it caught on so fast that Disney kept it going, and people are still trading pins in the parks today. So by Christmas 2000, Disney pin trading was in its second holiday season, and a party button like this one fit right in.
Pin it on your coat for the holidays, hang it on the tree, or add it to your Disney pin collection. A great gift for anybody who's been to the party or dreams of going.
