Vintage 1975 Yogi Bear Boo Boo Bicentennial Stickers 🐻 Patriotic Hanna‑Barbera NOS

Remember Yogi Bear's Bicentennial? 🐻 Vintage 1975 Hanna-Barbera Patriotic Stickers, NOS

Size: 3 1/4" x 2"

🇺🇸 Yogi Bear and Boo Boo standing by the flag, and Yogi snapping a salute between the words I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE. You get both stickers in this pair, printed in 1975 in red and blue as the country got ready for its 200th birthday, and they've never been peeled.

🔍 What's On Them

The first is the wide one: It's our Flag in big blue letters, Yogi in his hat and tie with Boo Boo at his side and the stars and stripes flying, a star in the corner, and the little name tags YOGI BEAR and BOO BOO. Along the bottom it's marked © HANNA BARBERA PRODUCTIONS 1975. The second is the tall one: Yogi saluting, with I PLEDGE running down one side and ALLEGIANCE down the other in star-spangled letters, red and blue stripes top and bottom, and © HANNA BARBERA PRODUCTIONS. The backs are the plain peel-off backing.

Yogi wasn't alone. The same 1975 run of patriotic stickers had Popeye, Dick Tracy, Bozo the Clown and Laurel and Hardy in it, each marked by whoever owned the character, and collectors will tell you they came out of the vending machines at the grocery store.

🐻 Smarter Than the Av-er-age Bear

Yogi showed up in 1958 as a supporting player on The Huckleberry Hound Show and pretty quickly got more popular than Huck himself, so Hanna-Barbera gave him The Yogi Bear Show in January 1961. Daws Butler did his voice for thirty years, from 1958 to 1988, and Boo Boo was Don Messick. Yogi lived in Jellystone Park, based on Yellowstone, swiping pic-a-nic baskets and dodging Ranger Smith, and his whole personality came from Art Carney's Ed Norton on The Honeymooners.

And the name? It sounded an awful lot like Yogi Berra, the Yankees catcher, and Berra filed suit over it. Hanna-Barbera said it was a coincidence, and Berra dropped it. The story goes that he said he was going to sue until somebody reminded him Yogi wasn't his real name, it was Lawrence.
