Remember Buvez Coca-Cola Glacé? 🧊 Coca-Cola "Buvez Coca-Cola Glace" Postcard, © 1997, From the Archives of The Coca-Cola Company

Size: 6" x 4 1/2" ~ Unused.

An ice king carved out of snow and ice, crowned and bearded, holding a frosty contour bottle of Coke against a snowbank, under a big red BUVEZ Coca-Cola disc. This is a vintage 1997 Coca-Cola postcard from the "From the Archives of The Coca-Cola Company" series, reproducing a 1947 French-language point-of-sale display made for Quebec. Amazing condition and just removed from the factory package for photographs. First time exposed for over 25 years and yours to enjoy!

🔍 What's on it

On the front, the ice king rises out of a swirl of snow on a deep purple ground, with the classic contour bottle, embossed with its Coca-Cola lettering, in his hand. At the top right, a red disc reading BUVEZ Coca-Cola with a snowball perched on it, and down the bottom in carved icy letters, GLACE. On the back, FROM THE ARCHIVES OF THE COCA-COLA COMPANY with the card's own caption: Coca-Cola had been available throughout North America for nearly 40 years when this 1947 Canadian point-of-sale display was created for use in Quebec, and the French translates to "Drink Coca-Cola Ice Cold." There's a barcode, POSTAGE REQUIRED, the card number 6300-52, and the fine print: the cards were produced under the authority of The Coca-Cola Company and Coca-Cola Ltd. in Canada by Sunbelt Marketing Group, Inc., Printed in the USA., © 1997 The Coca-Cola Company.

🇨🇦 Coca-Cola in Canada and Quebec

Canada was Coca-Cola's first stop outside the United States. As the company tells it, the first Canadian Coca-Cola bottling plant opened in January 1906 at 65 Bellwoods Avenue in Toronto, the first one anywhere outside the U.S., and Montreal got its own plant on April 1, 1909, which was so busy it had to move to a bigger space a year later. By 1921 the Winnipeg plant was out-producing the Atlanta and Birmingham, Alabama plants put together! In Quebec the ads spoke French, so "Drink Coca-Cola Ice Cold" became "Buvez Coca-Cola Glacé," and a snowy ice king made a pretty good salesman for a cold drink in a province that knows a thing or two about ice.

🏡 Display

Imagine this in a frame in your kitchen, game room or Coke collection! It's a perfect gift for a Coca-Cola collector, a postcard collector, anybody from Quebec or Montreal, or anybody who loves a cold Coke. Once these last ones are gone they'll be very difficult to acquire. Like everything I sell, they've been kept in the dark at a steady 72°F and under 40% humidity.
