Original 1950s crate label for the Gold Dredger brand. The printed product line on the sheet is California Fruit — no citrus word of any kind appears on it — and the bottom line reads H.J.CHEIM   YUBA CITY   SUTTER COUNTY   CALIFORNIA, with no packed-by verb and no printer credit.

This elongated strip-format label measures 13 inches × 4 inches and was used on California fruit boxes during the mid-20th century.

The label is New Old Stock, unused and unmounted, with strong original color, clean edges, and no visible wear. Stored flat and well preserved.

Gold Dredger labels are collected for their regional branding and mid-century commercial design, reflecting California's agricultural history in the post-war years. The strip-format format is less commonly encountered than standard crate labels.

⛏️ What the Label Actually Prints

  • GOLD DREDGER arched across the sky in large yellow-gold display capitals, the letter faces filled with a speckled gold-nugget texture with a white top highlight and a brown bevel — the one device that ties the lettering to the dredge
  • California Fruit in dark red brush script, centred below the dredge. That is the entire printed product line.
  • H.J.CHEIM   YUBA CITY   SUTTER COUNTY   CALIFORNIA
  • UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, set apart at the right — this sheet uses that in place of the usual PRODUCE OF U.S.A. line

No citrus word, no orange, no variety and no grade appears anywhere on the label, and there is no net weight and no lithographer's imprint. The scene is a bucket-line gold dredge — yellow hull and superstructure, dark steel gantry, bucket ladder rising at the left and a stacker conveyor throwing tailings — floating on a pale turquoise dredge pond, with plum-purple tailings ridges banked at the left, ochre cut banks and a bare hillside at the right, a small rowboat alongside the hull, and a magenta-pink field band on the far horizon under a deep blue sky graduating to chartreuse.
