This vintage 1980 "I ♥ Elvis" postcard is a bright little shout‑out to the King from the early wave of Elvis nostalgia. Printed by Southern Post Card Co., Inc. of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, it's part of their Royal Mini Print line: a big red heart on black, a tall white I, and Elvis in flowing white script.

❤️ Where "I ♥" came from

That heart-for-"love" look goes back to Milton Glaser, the designer who sketched I ♥ NY in red crayon in the back of a taxi in 1976 for New York State's tourism campaign. It was first used in 1977 and became the most imitated logo in the world, and "I ♥" soon showed up on everything. 1977 was also the year the world lost Elvis, on August 16, and the tributes never really stopped. This card puts the two together.

🖨️ The printer: "America's Postcard King"

The little logo on the back belongs to Mike Roberts (1905–1989), known as America's Postcard King. He left home at sixteen with $25, a box camera and a Harley, landed in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1934 as a photographer, and in 1949 started Mike Roberts Color Productions, the first to print photochrome postcards from the new Kodachrome color film. His company printed postcards for half a century and kept going until 1998. Southern Post Card Co. of Goodlettsville, just north of Nashville, sold this one under its own Royal line.

Cards like this were the inexpensive souvenirs sold at gift stands and record shops for fans who were still missing the King. Graceland itself opened to the public on June 7, 1982, when 3,034 fans paid $5 each to be the first ones through the door. If you still say "I love Elvis" when one of his songs comes on, this is an easy way to add that feeling to a shelf of vinyl, a gallery wall, or a postcard album.
