Remember Donny and Marie? 🖼️ Vintage 1970s Osmond Black-and-White Art Print

Size: 8" x 10"

🎤 Calling all Donny and Marie Osmond fans! An uncommon 1970s black-and-white art print of the brother-and-sister duo, 8 x 10 inches.

It's a studio portrait from the very start of their TV years, and I can tell you just about when it was taken. Those matching outfits, Marie's striped bodice with the lace cuffs and Donny's rhinestone-studded striped vest with the big white collar, are the ones they wore for ABC's publicity shoot for the new Donny & Marie show on December 8, 1975, about six weeks before it went on the air. The back is plain.

Like everything I keep, it lives in the dark at under 40% relative humidity and a steady 72°F, climate controlled, so any age it shows, it had before it came to me.

📺 A little bit country, a little bit rock 'n' roll

When Donny & Marie premiered on ABC on January 23, 1976, Donny was 18 and Marie was 16, the youngest entertainers in TV history to host their own variety show. Every week opened with an ice-skating number, then comedy sketches with semi-regulars like Paul Lynde and Ruth Buzzi, then the songs, and it closed with a musical finale and a cascade of balloons. The signature was "A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock 'N Roll," Marie taking the country side and Donny the rock and roll. The show was taped in Los Angeles at first, then in November 1977 it moved home to Utah, to the family's own Osmond Studios in Orem, and it ran until May 27, 1979.

Before the TV show they'd already had a hit together: their 1974 remake of "I'm Leaving It All Up to You" was their first single as a duo, and it climbed to number four on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was already a No. 1 hit for Dale & Grace back in 1963, and the Osmonds' version gave its name to their first album together, released by MGM in July 1974 and produced by Mike Curb and Alan Osmond, which went to No. 35 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold. They followed it with "Morning Side of the Mountain," which went to No. 8 on the Hot 100 and spent a week at No. 1 on the Easy Listening chart in January 1975, and then "Deep Purple," another Top 20 hit for the pair.

They came by it honestly. Their older brothers, the Osmond Brothers, started singing on The Andy Williams Show in 1962, and Donny joined them as a little boy. Marie recorded "Paper Roses" at 13, and when it hit No. 1 on the country chart in November 1973, just after her 14th birthday, she became the youngest female act ever to top that chart. So by the time ABC came calling, these two had been on stage most of their lives.

A great piece for a '70s music and TV collection, framed on its own or next to one of their records. They aren't making any more vintage prints like this, so once these last few are gone they'll be very difficult to acquire.
