Description

Prepare to be awestruck by this extraordinary piece of aviation history! This vintage Dominator Brand crate label from the 1940s is a tomato lug label built around a piece of wartime aviation art. The sheet reads PACKED & SHIPPED BY T. O. TOMASELLO CO., MAIN OFFICE, WATSONVILLE, CALIFORNIA — that is the packer's office, and the label says nothing about where it was designed or printed. Measuring an impressive 13" x 5", it shows a silver military aircraft in a steep diving attack, firing tracers past a shadowed blue globe with contrails streaming behind it. The exquisite lithography process brings to life the sleek lines and formidable presence of this game-changing aircraft, making it a must-have for any aviation enthusiast or history buff.

Product Details

The sheet names no aircraft. No model, no nickname and no service designation is printed anywhere on it — and the aeroplane drawn is not the single-engine, single-fuselage shape a diving single-engine fighter has. It is a multi-body/twin-boom silver ship: a long pointed central fuselage plus a separate slimmer boom carrying the bubble canopy, with a single tall fin. The national insignia painted on both wings and the fuselage is a white five-point star on a blue disc with a red centre dot, a distinctly early-war style. This listing describes what is actually drawn rather than naming a type the label never claims. Despite being around eighty years old, this rare label has stood the test of time, showing minimal edge wear and retaining its vibrant colors. The authenticity of this piece is palpable, allowing you to own a tangible piece of World War II history.

🏷️ What Is Printed on This Label

Read off the sheet itself, verbatim — this is the label's own printed text, not a description of it:

  • PACKED & SHIPPED BY
  • T. O. TOMASELLO
  • CO.
  • MAIN OFFICE
  • WATSONVILLE
  • CALIFORNIA
  • PRODUCE OF U.S.A.
  • DOMINATOR
  • BRAND
  • MINIMUM NET WT.
  • 30 LBS.
  • TOMATOES

The packer block sits inside a pale teal inverted-triangle device at the upper left; the brand is set as huge red-and-cream 3D block letters running diagonally across a deep navy ground that shades to teal at the lower right. TOMATOES is printed large at the lower right — this is a tomato lug label, and until now no title and no body on any island said so.

No lithographer's imprint appears anywhere on the sheet, and there is no printed date or copyright line, front or back. The 1940s dating rests on the trade record and the owner's notes.
