    😤 Youuu're Dethpicable!

Daffy first showed up in "Porky's Duck Hunt," released April 17, 1937. Tex Avery came up with a duck hunt where Porky Pig tries to bag the ducks and they keep turning the tables on him, and Bob Clampett, who animated it, was every bit as responsible for the crazy black duck who stole the show. Clampett had him cross his eyes, do a Stan Laurel jump, cartwheels, a ballet pirouette and bounce on his head, and the "woo-woos" were dubbed in afterward. Audiences had never seen a cartoon character act like that, and it hit theaters like an explosion.

Mel Blanc gave him his voice, and the lisp came from Blanc's own reasoning that a bill that long would get in the way of every "s" he tried to say. Blanc voiced Daffy from 1937 to 1989, 52 years, which is the world record for one actor playing the same cartoon character.

Chuck Jones gave us a lot of my favorite Daffy. His hunting trilogy, "Rabbit Fire" (1951), "Rabbit Seasoning" (1952) and "Duck! Rabbit, Duck!" (1953), has Daffy and Bugs Bunny yelling "Duck season! Rabbit season!" at poor Elmer Fudd, and Daffy losing the argument every single time. Then there's "Duck Amuck" (1953), where an unseen animator keeps changing the scenery, the costume and even Daffy himself, and it still works because Daffy is always Daffy. It's counted among the true masterpieces of American animation, and it was picked for the National Film Registry in 1999. TV Guide put Daffy at No. 14 on its list of the 50 greatest cartoon characters.
