Description

🎨 Bold mid‑century packaging art
Step back into the 1940s broom closet—when even a humble household tool came dressed in full color lithography. This original broom label features a dramatic profile of a Native American chief in a feathered headdress, framed by spears and geometric borders in saturated reds, blues, yellows, and greens. At about 6" by 3.5", it was meant to be pasted on the front of a broom or mop, turning an everyday cleaning item into a little billboard of color on the shop shelf.

🧺 When brooms needed branding
Before affordable vacuum cleaners took over after World War II, broom makers relied on labels like this to catch a shopper’s eye. Small regional companies ordered bright, high‑impact designs, hoping that color and imagery would make their brooms stand out among a crowded row of wood handles and straw heads. Most of those firms—and their labels—disappeared as electric appliances became standard, leaving only unused stock like this behind as evidence of that whole slice of advertising history.

📜 Unprinted panel, unused condition
The lower panel on this label was left blank at the factory so the maker could print their own brand name or town details, but this example was never used. You get the full artwork clean and uncluttered, with the “Printed in U.S.A.” line and a small plate number at the bottom.

🏠 Ready‑made wall art
This label frames beautifully on its own or as part of a grouping with other vintage packaging, cigar labels, fruit crate labels, and old store ephemera. The strong colors pop against a simple mat, making it an easy way to add a shot of 1940s color to a kitchen, laundry room, hallway, or office. It also works well in a gallery wall with other mid‑century graphics and typography.

💗 Honoring anonymous commercial artists
Pieces like this are also a quiet tribute to the anonymous illustrators who created them. These were skilled artists working quickly for small pay, often without credit, filling the shelves of America’s small stores with images that most people never thought twice about. Saving and displaying labels like this helps keep that everyday art—and the people behind it—alive a little longer.
