Remember Embla Crest Army Decals? 🇺🇸 United States Army Eagle Decal, Embla Crest, Sealed on Its Card

Size: 3" ~ Factory sealed, little to no wear. ~ It is unknown if the adhesive still works, as that is usually the first thing to fail.

Embla Crest, a rare vintage 1960s United States Army decal, is a highly collectible item. Factory sealed. These are likely the last of their kind in the world, serving as a poignant reminder of a time when we celebrated our community and their contributions. Nobody's printing these 69-cent cards anymore, and once the sealed ones are gone they will be very difficult to acquire.

It's a patriotic emblem with UNITED STATES arched across the top and ARMY along the bottom. In the center is the American eagle with its wings raised and a shield on its chest, an olive branch in one set of talons and a bundle of arrows in the other, under a ring of cloud around a little field of stars.

It is unknown if the adhesive still works, as that is usually the first thing to fail. It may require assistance, also known as glue, to affix. Little to no wear.

🏷️ What's Printed on It

  • UNITED STATES ARMY
  • PLURIBUS and UNUM on the ribbon in the eagle's beak (the E is tucked into the curl), for E PLURIBUS UNUM
  • Card: EMBLA CREST, EASY TO APPLY-SELF-STICK, 69¢

It comes on a salmon-red Embla Crest hang card, sealed in its clear sleeve. The back of the card is plain, with just the hang hole and staple and a little show-through from the front.

🦅 The Great Seal on a Decal

That eagle isn't just any eagle. It's the national coat of arms, the front of the Great Seal of the United States, whose design the Continental Congress adopted in 1782. The bald eagle holds 13 arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, meaning a strong desire for peace but always ready for war, and on the seal its head turns toward the olive branch. The red ring over its head on these decals is the seal's glory breaking through a cloud, and the dots inside it are the constellation of 13 stars. The number 13 runs all through the seal for the 13 original states, and even E Pluribus Unum, "Out of Many, One," has 13 letters.

The Army has worn this same eagle for a long time. It became the standard insignia on Army officers' caps by 1902 and still is today. Collectors call it the Officer's Eagle.

🇺🇸 The Army

The U.S. Army traces its birthday to June 14, 1775, when the Second Continental Congress established the Continental Army to fight the Revolution, and the Army has carried on from it ever since as the land service of the United States. Its motto is This We'll Defend.

The 1960s, when these decals were made, were the decade the Army's Special Forces became famous. A Department of the Army message of September 25, 1961 made the green beret the Special Forces headdress. President Kennedy visited Fort Bragg that October 12 and wrote that "the green beret will be a mark of distinction in the trying times ahead." Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler's Ballad of the Green Berets spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966 and was the No. 1 song of the year.

🏷️ Embla Crest

Embla Crest made self-stick emblems for every branch of the service, plus states, lodges and the professions, and sold them on little hang cards. I have one Embla Crest card that prints the Atlantic Emblem name and Walterboro right under the Embla Crest banner, as Atlantic Emblem Co. of Walterboro, South Carolina. That card also carries a five-digit ZIP code, and ZIP codes only came in on July 1, 1963, which squares with the 1960s date on these. Its 803 phone number is from before the Lowcountry moved to area code 843 in 1998. Walterboro had an Army post of its own in World War II, the Walterboro Army Airfield, which opened in 1942.

🏡 Display

It's a great gift for a soldier, a veteran or a proud Army family, and it looks sharp framed on its card beside a service photo.

Please refer to the pictures. It provides details and is considered part of the description for you.

It's a little piece of vintage memorabilia that would look stunning in your room, so give it a good home!
