🎨 Susan Rini's Miracle Mets

Historic Limited Editions of Williston Park, out on Long Island, commissioned sports artist Susan Rini to paint the 1969 Mets, and the postcards came out as a 36-card set in the late 1980s, with Nolan Ryan and Tom Seaver in there along with the rest of the championship club. The run is printed right on the back of every card: 5,000 sets. Beautiful artwork - it's going to be a classic.

🧢 Art Shamsky

Arthur Louis Shamsky - "Sham" or "Smasher" to his teammates - was a big part of the Miracle Mets: he hit .300 with 14 home runs, second on the team in both, sharing right field, and then hit .538 from the cleanup spot in the National League Championship Series. That championship doesn't happen without his hot bat down the stretch - grab this one while you can! 💪

He was born October 14, 1941 in St. Louis to Jewish immigrant parents and came up with the Cincinnati Reds in 1965, where in August 1966 he tied a major league record by homering in four consecutive at bats. He's still the only player in big league history to hit three home runs in a game he didn't start. He played for the Mets from 1968 to 1971, then the Cubs and the A's in 1972. In 1969 he famously sat out on Yom Kippur, and as he put it, the funny thing was the Mets won both ends of a doubleheader that day. After baseball he broadcast Mets games, wrote The Magnificent Seasons about the 1969 and 1970 championships of the Jets, Mets and Knicks, managed the Modi'in Miracle in the Israel Baseball League in 2007, and went into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 1994.

🏆 The Amazin' Mets

The Mets had never finished higher than ninth in a ten-team league in their first seven seasons and had never had a winning record. Then in 1969, under Gil Hodges, they went 100 and 62, came back from ten games behind the Cubs on August 14 to win the new National League East by eight, swept the Braves in the first NLCS, and beat the Baltimore Orioles in five games to become the first expansion team to win the World Series. No wonder they're still the Miracle Mets.

🖼️ Display

It's a perfect little piece to frame for a Mets fan's desk or game room, or tuck into a collection of 1969 Mets memorabilia. The supply is finite - there were only 5000 of these to begin with, and once these last ones are gone, they'll be very difficult to acquire.
