⚾ David Cone was born on January 2, 1963, in Kansas City, Missouri, and built a career that took him through some of the most celebrated organizations in the sport before he arrived in the Bronx and became one of the defining arms of the New York Yankees' dynasty years in the late 1990s. He had already demonstrated what he was capable of – a 1994 American League Cy Young Award season – before the Yankees acquired him, and what followed in pinstripes was one of the more decorated stretches a starting pitcher produced during that era: four World Series rings in five years, as part of the Yankees rotation that anchored one of the great dynasties in the modern history of professional baseball.

On Yogi Berra Day at Yankee Stadium, with the legendary catcher present on the field before the game, David Cone retired all 27 Montreal Expos batters he faced to complete a perfect game – the 16th perfect game in the history of Major League Baseball at the time, accomplished at age 36 in his 16th major league season. The improbability of the performance, the setting, the date, and the presence of Yogi Berra made it one of the most celebrated individual pitching achievements in Yankees history.
