Remember Taz Pins? 🌪️ Taz, 1995, still in the bag

Size: 2 1/2"

That grin! A big 1995 Tasmanian Devil button from Warner Bros., still sealed in its original cello bag after all these years. 2 1/2 inches across, so Taz has plenty of room to show off every one of those teeth.

🔍 What's on it

A round pinback button with a sky-blue face. Tasmanian Devil in yellow script outlined in black across the top, and Taz himself standing there with his arms crossed, claws out, and that famous toothy snarl. Down at the bottom, TM & © 1995 WARNER BROS. and Made in China. On the back, a plastic backing with a bar pin.

And here's the fun part: the backs are different colors. I have seen blue, yellow, white, green, pink and maybe more, so you never know which one you'll get, just like the other Looney Tunes pins.

🎬 The little devil who almost wasn't

Taz was dreamed up by director Robert McKimson and writer Sid Marcus, and he spun onto the screen for the first time in Devil May Hare, released June 19, 1954, chasing Bugs Bunny, of course. Mel Blanc gave him that growling, spitting, gibberish voice. The funny thing is, he nearly never came back. After that first cartoon, producer Edward Selzer told McKimson to stop using him because he was "too obnoxious." Then studio boss Jack L. Warner told Selzer he'd gotten "boxes and boxes" of letters from fans who wanted more Taz, and that settled that.

Even so, Taz only made five classic cartoons before the Warner Bros. cartoon studio closed in the 1960s. His real fame came later: in 1991 he got his own TV show, Taz-Mania, which ran four seasons, and all through the 1990s his face was on everything from T-shirts to buttons like this one. A 1995 Taz pin is right out of the middle of that craze.

Leave it sealed for your Looney Tunes collection, pin it on a jacket or a backpack, or give it to the Taz fan in your life. A great one for anybody who grew up on Saturday morning cartoons.
